Calibration Scientist:
Caelum Research Corporation is currently looking for candidates with experience in high degree calibration
and validation (cal/val). This cal/val experience should be directly related to Polar-Orbiting Geostationary
satellite instrumentation for retrieval of Earth's environmental parameters.
Ideal candidates will have experience in developing procedures and analyzing the performance of NPP/VIIRS
engineering and flight model units using Geometric Optics and Calibration (specifically for geometric
calibration of the NPP/VIIRS instrument - MODIS and Landsat experience is an acceptable subsititute).
Required Qualification:
Successful candidates should be proficient in current and emerging Cal/Val data processing environments
and languages, image processing and geospatial techniques, operating systems (LINUX a plus), and computational
operations with large spatial/relational databases. Fluency with C, FORTRAN and IDL is expected.
Candidates should have experience in spectral calibration, principles of geometric optics and sensor detector
characteristics. They will develop procedures and conduct geometric calibration for the sensor engineering
and flight model units, including sensor geometry impacts on pixel-by-pixel and band-to-band geolocation,
pre-launch simulation of control point matching, control point files and modifications to control point
"chips", and scan angle/mirror control point residual and error analyses.
Education:
Ph.D or M.Sc degree in a Physical Science is required, with expertise in remote sensing instrumentation,
radiometric and spectral calibration, atmospheric radiative transfer modeling, theory and techniques,
and/or atmospheric/oceanic/space physics and chemistry. Familiarity with existing techniques for
inter-satellite and cross-platform calibration is expected.
